Backend EngineerJul 2025 – Present

I build and own backend services on Shopee’s order-fulfilment platform, which processes millions of orders a day across multiple regions. Day to day that means distributed systems, data consistency, concurrency and fault tolerance.

Device protection for Apple purchases
The fulfilment side of ShopeeCare, Shopee’s device-protection plan for Apple products: a policy is created when the order is paid, and activated when the device is scanned at the warehouse.
Impact
- Built for the launch in Singapore and Malaysia.
- Sole backend engineer from my team, working with several other teams.

Partial Cancellation
Cancel part of an order, not all of it
Lets an order be cancelled item by item or parcel by parcel, before or after it ships, with the shipping fee recalculated for what’s left.
Impact
- Designed and built across 6+ microservices.

Pipelines System
Every check before an order ships, in the right order
Runs the checks an order has to pass before it can ship, such as fraud screening and carrier allocation. Each check is a pipeline with its own trigger and dependencies, and one dispatcher releases each as soon as it’s ready.
Impact
- Migrated several outdated order flows onto the Pipelines system.
- Made them far easier to maintain, and let them run concurrently.
- Gave them clear monitoring, so issues are spotted sooner.

Assurance System
A safety net that catches stuck orders
Watches every order on its way through fulfilment and notices when one stalls, whatever the cause. It retries what it safely can and reports the rest to an engineer.
Impact
- Proposed, architected and built it end to end.
- Engineered two complementary ways to detect stalls: event-driven Kafka consumers and scheduled database scans.
- Built full observability: dashboards and metrics for resource use, throughput, QPS and consumer lag.
- Automated the follow-up: a daily report of stuck records, alerts, and a bot that notifies the developers.
- Cut a sweep job that overran its window from about 9 hours to 10 minutes.

I owned a Spring batch-processing system for forex pricing from design all the way to production, where every number has to be exactly right. I also shipped a new pricing strategy and reshaped the code around it so future pricing models slot straight in.
